A San Diego treat has arrived at Bally’s Palace Theater. Il Circo is a demonstration of athletic prowess wrapped up in Commedia dell’arte packaging. It is on a much smaller scale than the elaborate Cirque du Soleil extravaganzas that for my money are too much spectacle and not enough humanity.

Cirque ...‘Il Circo' rooted in ethnic tradition

January 18, 2007

“Il Circo: Viaggio” can best be summed up as cirque-Italian style. The lavish cirque-style production, which runs through April 5 at Bally's, takes its inspiration from the 15th and 16th century Italian commedia dell'arte tradition, according to Sam Trego, the show's producer-director.

This centuries-old theatrical form incorporates juggling, acrobatics, masked characters and improvisational humor, all built around a broad storyline.

'Cirque' it isn't, but 'iL CiRCo' entertains

The use of upper- and lower-case letters in its title isn't the only thing that sets apart iL CiRCo from similar Cirque du
Soleil knockoffs.

The show, which runs through April 5 at the Palace Theater at Bally's Atlantic City, is that rare Cirque-ish production
that doesn't portray itself as anything more than what it is -- 70 minutes' of family-friendly fun

IMAGINATION ENTERTAINMENT DELIGHTS PCMA AUDIENCE

January 15, 2003

The PCMA (Professional Convention Management Association) annual meeting was held in Anaheim January 5-8, providing a unique opportunity to host 2800 meeting planners and hospitality industry professionals in this virtually “all new” destination. What better way to introduce these changes than with an edgy, exciting performance by IE’s iL CiRCo?

iL CiRCo performers delighted guests as they made their way to the opening reception, in a long “walkway du cirque” featuring a variety of disciplines from contortion to ball-walking to juggling. With this dramatic approach to moving the crowd, guests immediately understood that this would not be an ordinary event.

CIRQUE DE LA MER A SMASH HIT

August 13, 2001

This summer's smash hit at SeaWorld San Diego - Cirque de la Mer - is due in large part to the show's wonderfully inventive marketing campaign. Cirque de la Mer was initially introduced to television audiences, and now most recently, with the billboard and magazine ad campaign: "Cirque de la Mer... It's here."

This series of ads show frolicking Sea Sprites and whimsical acrobatic feats taking place in everyday situations and backdrops. The successful campaign made the characters of Cirque de la Mer seem real and thus inspired audiences to flock to see the newest cirque phenomenon from Imagination Entertainment.

Picture the Little Mermaid as "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," and you'll have an idea of what to expect from the new Cirque de la Mer at SeaWorld. Acrobats in sea-dweller garb flip and twirl on bungee trapezes above Mission Bay with all the finesse and athleticism of action hero Croft in her dramatic dance to dodge menacing hit men.
