History of iL CiRCo

Since its creation in the early 1990s, the iL CiRCo troupe has grown to include singers, dancers, street performers, acrobats and specialty performers. The troupe has attracted cast members from around the globe, each contributing unique talents to this cultural melting pot of performance art. The prevailing "try anything" spirit among the troupe in its early workshops allowed an innovative art form to emerge, with a genuinely fresh script and originality in its theatrical style. The first large-scale performance was in San Diego for an exclusive invitation-only audience of four hundred people on March 31, 1996. There was a sense of raw and unnerving energy in the room that night that was calmed only by the crowd's enthusiastic applause, which made it clear to the members of the troupe that they were on the verge of something truly wonderful. The phone started ringing the next morning, and exciting opportunities took this performance troupe to a level they had never imagined.

In 2000, the troupe was hired by Samsung to provide the Samsung DigitALL experience at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The show, and the stunning performance venue built for the event, was an enormous undertaking. As a central feature at Sidney's Olympic Park, the show was seen each day by literally thousands of people from all over the world.

It wasn't long before Anheuser-Bush wanted to take the iL CiRCo troupe and develop a branded show of their own. The concept served as a beta test to develop and market a show as an attraction to compete with other theme parks’ roller coasters and rides. An enormous success, Cirque de la Mer opened on May 24, 2001, and still plays today. The show was such a hit for the park that it often rates as the #1 attraction at SeaWorld San Diego. A quick search on YouTube will reveal thousands of comments from fans all around the world who share their thoughts on this show and on the music that has inspired millions.

The success of these performances led to theatrical tours around the U.S. and in other countries. In fact, iL CiRCo has toured in more than 14 countries on five continents and has been seen by more than 8 million people. Their shows continue to fill theaters, give private performances for royalty, and headline worldwide at casinos, corporate functions and other special events of all sizes.
